Take Cutler Beckett and any other POTC characters and reimagine a Shakespeare play with them in the main roles. Could be Macbeth, Othello, Hamlet, anything you like.

Post your stories for the world to see and stay as faithful to the original or go wild.

I'm probably going to do the first meeting scene of the Taming of the Shrew reimagined with Cutler and Elizabeth or Twelfth Night with Elizabeth in the role of Viola and Cutler as Orsino.

Any takers? Pick your plays, any plays.

Cheers.

An analysis

T&T have said at Wordplayer: Will must remain Captain of the Dutchman.
If he quits his post he will turn into a squid like Davy. However, if he
finds a love that is true and that lover is true for 10 years, upon
their meeting (lover and captain) the curse will be broken. Green flash
would indicate curse is broken. That is what T&T say.

However, the textual interpretation (what we see on screen) is that Liz
and Will part, she meets him again in 10 years and has a son.

You can ASSUME Liz becomes Queen of Saigon in that ten-year period, but
you could also assume she became a tavern wench.

The thing is at the end of AWE each character is given a directive Will
(become captain and sail), Jack (seek adventure), Liz (take care of
chest and be true to Will). When we see Liz ten years later we see she
became a mother. Thus her role seems to be: care-giver. Of the chest and
of the child.

We can assume what we want (that she is mother and warrior) but should
we? The text is one thing and then assumptions would veer off into
non-canon.

p.s.: for this analysis I am employing the common framework used in film studies of textual/extra-textual/inter-textual.

To elaborate. Textual: evidence located in the film or book (scenes, relationships, images which appear in the actual work).

Extra-textual: what is taking place in the time period or social framework of the story. For example, if you analyze Uncle Tom's Cabin you can take into consideration the location, time period, cultural references and historical frame of that time.

Inter-textual: relationship between the text and other media which is crucial to the interpretation of the other text. For example, Ulysses by James Joyce draws parallels between it's modern protagonist and Greek mythology.

Romance and adventure and swashbuckling pirate Elizabeth.

And damn it, I want pirate Elizabeth to triumph at the end.

Not ... single mother drama at the Lifetime channel.

There's nothing wrong with the Lifetime channel or mother or single people or single mothers who happen to watch the Lifetime channel.

But lets put it this way ... if I order banana cream pie I expect to get a pie with bananas. If somebody served me a pie with apples I would say: hey, where's my banana?

As cool as Elizabeth mom might be I don't want to spend my money on that. I fell in love with pirate Elizabeth. I don't want mom-Elizabeth cleaning nappies and waiting for Will.

I was promised banana cream pie and that means Elizabeth better be on a ship with Will, heading to Atlantis or something.

Oh, and don't tell me Elizabeth is growing as a character by becoming a mother. By that definition, Jack is un-growing by staying a perfectly drunk cad aboard a dingy (so men like Jack don't need to grow but women like Lizzie do?). So not every character needs to "grow". If Jack doesn't grow, then Elizabeth can stay the same care-free girl I love, slicing octopi and making out with Will every Sunday.

Look, I work hard every week and I need my escapism. So I demand my pirate Lizzie. If she has to start paying a mortage what's the fun in THAT escapism?

End of rant.

Some more Noblesse Chapters, coming out! Almost done with that fic. Thankfully! Exhausted here.

Btw, You can go watch this video over at you tube. It has nothing to do with POTC. It's a very old video (like 1980s) in Italian by singer Miguel Bose but I think the music is great, sad (and if you understand the lyrics they are beautiful too) and to me it's the way I see "my imaginary" POTC ending (and no, it's not the ending for this fic) as opposed to what we may see in theatres Jack and Liz wise. Anyhow, don't know if you get my drift. It's called Se Tu No Torni. You can find it on You Tube by typing that phrase ("Se Tu No Torni") or click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80ZSPXvSZUg.

And as long as we are talking old 80s songs, you might as well listen to Nena, also by Miguel Bose. I think its very J/Eish. He,he. Anyhow if you want to listen to some of the weird retro-stuff I like, in You Tube type: "Este Es El Video Clip Original De La Cancion De Miguel Bose Nena" or click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUWOckq-xJk

Warning: both videos are old and 80ish, not very good. But I still love the music.

I rarely let anyone in of stuff like this so it's weird for me to be telling people all over the net that I like retro-80s songs but ... I figure what the hell. I'm feeling generous today :)

Cheers,

Laby

Funny how three chapters can stretch onto forever, no? I had enough time to do some writing on the weekend but passed on it. I am suddenly not feeling in the mood. I wouldn't want to leave Noblesse unfinished, as I did promise I would finish it in May but at the same time there's so much more on my mind that it's taking a lot of effort to be even consider writing a paragraph.
I always feel angry when I say fanfiction that was left abandoned (specially if it was good) and I don't want to abandon this baby so close to the finish line but I am seriously busy. Work, life, etc., all conspiring against me.

Will try to force myself to finish Noblesse during the long weekend. Au revoir.
